A special thank you to Doug Laher for being willing to share this story with us and others to help create a conversation around hiker safety and the use of risk mitigation skills when enjoying the great outdoors. This episode is very close to my heart as the Pacific Crest Trail was a major part of making me who I am today. This story is of a tragic accident that took place on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2020. For those who follow information from the trail on a regular basis, you may very well remember the young man who fell to his death that year in late March. With all the access to incredible wilderness areas through trail systems, it has never been a better time to be a lover of the great outdoors. But with that being said, the wilderness is still rugged and dangerous. Even the most skilled hikers, backpackers, and mountaineers of the world are taking a risk when entering the wild mountainous regions of the world. Today’s story is a tragic cautionary tale, but it’s also a story of a man who is using this tragedy as a way to bring awareness to the dangers of the wilderness, and hopefully, through his story, can help you or someone you love enjoy the incredible world that has been given to us, safely. So when I heard about today's guest, I just knew I had to have her on the show. Srujana Moparthi is the definition of an empowered woman in India, and her heart is with the lepers of India. For those living in the western world, it is likely that when the word leprosy is brought to one's attention, at the most, one might think about stories from the Bible. Leprosy is one of the oldest diseases known to man. Despite advances in technology, leprosy continues to be a public health challenge in countries around the world, such as India. Susie is an accomplished and talented Singer, Songwriter, and also the author of a book entitled The Day I Went Swimming & Didn’t Come Up the Same. When Susie was 11 years old she suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury that changed her life forever. When she woke up from her coma she was paralyzed. Susie had to basically relearn everything all over again. Through her journey of recovery, she has had to endure things like memory loss and chronic pain but through it all, she has learned the true meaning of being an overcomer and though her life’s journey has tested her faith, she has found her way in making this world a better place.

Not only is a new wave of farming predicted to appear with the future shift economically, but this also will grow a need for homegrown food! Corporates often outsource for livestock and produce, however- with the debt crisis, there will be room for more CSA’s. CSA’s are populated in more rural areas and the west coast is a hot spot! In late June of 2018, Johann Harnisch was on a solo kayaking trip on the Kootenay River in British Columbia when he was attacked and mauled by a grizzly bear with her cubs. After sustaining injuries to his leg, head, and arm he was able to crawl back to his kayak, and after calling 911, he made his way 1.5 miles up the river before getting help.
