Hip Reconstruction Surgery for Synthia

This is Synthia Furaha, a 20-year-old refugee living in Uganda. She and her family fled the war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, seeking safety.

In 2014, Synthia was in an accident that dislocated her hip. Without access to medical care, it was never relocated. Because it has been out of its socket for so many years, she now requires complex reconstruction surgery to restore it to where it needs to be. The injury has left her nearly eight inches shorter on one side, forcing her to live in constant pain and preventing her from living a normal life.

Recently, she learned that Dr. Gary Botimer from Loma Linda University would be performing surgeries at Ishaka Adventist Hospital. Dr. Botimer donates his time and offers materials at cost, but even then, Synthia’s family cannot afford the full expense.

The surgery could change her life forever. Dr. Botimer will return to Ishaka Hospital in October of 2025 and has encouraged the family to raise at least $1,000 toward the cost. She will still need an additional $2,000 to make the surgery possible.

Your contribution could help end her pain and give her a chance at the life she’s been missing.
